What is a breast form? Who should wear one?
Why wear a breast form?
Breast prostheses (or breast ‘forms’) and symmetry shapers are used for the care of women after breast cancer surgery. They can be used after mastectomy, breast-conserving surgery or reconstruction where extra volume is needed for total symmetry.
Breast forms should resemble the remaining breast as closely as possible in look and shape, creating a natural body silhouette. Well manufactured forms behave like a real breast, moving naturally when a woman walks and flattening when she lies down. However, breast forms do not just have a cosmetic role; there are also medical reasons to wear them. By compensating for the weight of a real breast, a properly fitting breast form helps prevent problems like lymphedema, bad posture or shoulder and neck problems.
Professional fitters will consider the individual needs of each woman when helping her choose a breast form. Among those available are silicone prostheses with special features, such as a self-adhesive back or a prosthesis whose self-shaping inner layer adapts to a woman’s chest wall or scar area. The main consideration is the wearer’s comfort. Each breast form quickly adapts to body temperature, so it doesn’t feel like a separate body part. In addition, innovative technologies have been developed that offer acute temperature regulation in some breast forms, giving the wearer a high level of comfort and freshness all day long. These are particularly good for women undergoing hormone therapy or menopause, or during physical activity which may cause sweating.
This broad choice of silicone breast forms with special shapes, properties and uses provides the basis for optimal patient care, whatever the need. Partial shapers can also be worn by women who have naturally unequal breasts, to improve their self-confidence and body image.
To securely hold a breast form or symmetry shaper, there are specially designed bras with integral pockets. While still beautiful to look at, these bras have clever features like a slightly higher neckline and underarm and soft, padded straps, to address the specific needs of women who wear breast prostheses. Because swimming is enjoyed by so many women, particularly after breast surgery, special swimwear has also been designed with similar features. Pockets securely hold the breast forms in place and allow comfortable movement and a natural silhouette.
For the perfect fit, individual consultations are provided by trained, certified mastectomy fitters in specialist shops, clinics or hospitals.
Wearing the right breast form can make a big difference in how you feel every day.
Amoena breast forms are designed for optimum comfort and performance. We understand, though, that with such a wide range to choose from, selecting the right one can be a bit overwhelming!
To make it easier, we code the cup form and shape of our products with a number and letter system that's similar to those used for clothing such as jeans and bras. There are three easy steps to choosing the correct product:
Step 1: Cup fullness
First select the cup fullness you require. Is your remaining breast (1) shallow, (2) average or (3) full?
Step 2: Shape
Then select the shape (s) symmetrical, (a) asymmetrical or (e) extra. Generally a symmetrical shape is best following a standard mastectomy and an asymmetrical breast form is best if you have had lymph nodes or tissue removed from under your arm.
Step 3: Size
All Amoena breastforms are available in a high size range from minimum 11 up to 17 different sizes.

Very pleased by CC After losing a little weight my 3S Breast Form was looking too full. The 2S is perfect and the perfect weight, I always forget I'm wearing a breast form.MRS by M H VERY PLEASED WITH MY NEW BOOBS AND GREAT SERVICE
Perfect by AT This breast form is brilliant. It is so light and comfortable that you hardly know that you are wearing inside the bra. Would definitely recommendLightweight prosthesis by F M This is comfortable and gives arealistic shape but it is only 19% lighter than my standard NHS prosthesis, so describing it as "up to 30%" lighter raised false hopes.Comfortable by H Lightweight, comfortable. This is the 2nd one I've had & it lasted over 7 years. Why wash the form after every use as it is in a bra pocket. Only quibble seems expensive for a bag of silicone,
comfortable and realistic by JS When my four year old granddaughter snuggles into me and my breast form and says how cuddly I am, I know that it feels good both for the wearer and the cuddler!Brilliant by WD This breast form is light and comfortable. The slight shaping to the side is great if you've had some lymph nodes removed as well. It flattens naturally when you you lie down . I highly recommend.Comfortable by WD This may seem like a lot of money to pay for a breast form but believe me it is worth every penny. It is soft, light, comfortable and above very natural feeling. You have to wear this every day so it’s really important to buy the right one.

Drapes naturally and the lighter weight makes it comfortable to wear all day.Everyday comfort by EE Delivered promptly. Natura Xtra Light 2SN Breast Form by FD I was getting shoulder pain with a normal weight breast form. This is definitely lighter. It is very wide but this does give wider spread than the normal breast form, and so sits more comfortablyComfortable fit by IS First fit, still using pocketed but so much better than kapok filled forms.
