Dr Beth DuPree transitioned her primary breast care practice to Sedona, Arizona in September 2017. She brings twenty-six years of expertise and passion to Cancer Centers of Northern Arizona where she plans to develop a fully integrative breast cancer program. Sedona has long been her favorite place on the planet since finding it in 2001 and plans to retire there, but not soon!

Dr. DuPree has been Vice President of Holy Redeemer Health System overseeing Surgical Services, Women’s Health, Employee Wellness and Integrative and Holistic Medicine. She has an academic appointment as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Surgery at The University of Pennsylvania. She is a breast surgeon who embraces Eastern-healing philosophies as she remains on the cutting edge of Western medical technologies. Dr. DuPree is a graduate of The University of Pittsburgh and a 1987 graduate of Hahnemann University (Drexel) School of Medicine. 

She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is board certified in Surgery as well as Integrative Medicine. Dr. DuPree is the recipient of numerous awards, achievements and serves on the advisory boards for several breast cancer organizations. She believes that “You must be the change you wish to see in the world” (Gandhi), and inspires her patients, colleagues and acquaintances to be the change. 

In 2007 she founded The Healing Consciousness Foundation that provides healing/ integrative services free of charge to women and men on their breast cancer journey. She is the author of “The Healing Consciousness: A Doctor’s Journey to Healing”, a Reiki Master, national and international physician educator, inspirational Speaker, pilot, philanthropist, health and wellness enthusiast and a loving wife of 30 years and mother of two amazing sons. 

She has been named to Philadelphia Magazine’s 2016 and 2017 TOP DOCS in surgery and Complementary Medicine.

Dr. William Scarlett is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon practicing outside of Philadelphia. He is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Osteopathic Specialists and the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons. Dr. Scarlett is a graduate of Dickinson College and the University of Des Moines medical school.

He serves as an associate clinical professor for the plastic surgery program as well as a frequent lecturer at the medical school. Dr. Scarlett co-founded a research company in order to advance patient care. He has received multiple awards and published numerous papers in his respective field. He recently contributed the breast reconstruction chapters for the books Surviving Cancer: Our Voices and Choices and An Inside Job: Healing Wisdom for Your Cancer Journey.

Dr. Scarlett’s practice is in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, where his focus is on breast reconstructive surgery. He serves as the Chief of Surgery and Director of Surgical Services at Holy Redeemer Hospital. He recently received a patent for a laser device that treats capsular contracture and was named as one of Philadelphia’s Health Care Innovators of 2018 by the Philadelphia Business Journal. Dr. Scarlett is working on publishing his first book entitled Demanding Compassion and continues to travel nationally teaching new techniques in breast reconstruction and oncoplastic surgery. He has developed workshops for cancer patients to help them deal with the psychosocial aspects of cancer care. Dr. Scarlett is a proud father of two girls and completed his first marathon last year.

She is a much sought after public speaker, author, social media personality, and consultant who believes that great healthcare should be ridiculously easy to get and the personal journey to better health should always feel good never guilty. She currently serves as the National Director for the Women’s Choice Award® ensuring clinical quality and patient experience at U.S. hospitals are rewarded with women’s preference.

As a sought-after speaker, author and workshop leader, Tanya has delivered more than 500 keynote speeches and conducted private workshops throughout the country and internationally in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development. Her views about innovation, transformation, and the woman’s perspective on healthcare have been published in the Huffington Post, The Ireland Report and elsewhere. She has been featured in over 100 television, radio and newspaper interviews around the country as an expert in moving the healthcare consumer from awareness to action.

Dr. Gerard‘s extraordinary, accomplished career in healthcare spans three decades and includes clinical practice, cancer center and nonprofit leadership, academic positions, board leadership, council appointments, public education, and community service.

In her 20 years of clinical work, Dr. Gerard practiced breast surgery; general surgery with a breast surgery focus; and general, vascular and trauma surgery. In addition, she‘s an expert in accreditation: a recent few of the long list of positions she‘s held include accreditation surveyor for the American College of Surgeons, Commission on Cancer and the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, Commission on Cancer. She has also served as administrator, cancer service line, for Presbyterian Healthcare Services; executive director/administrator, oncology service line of Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare; chief operating officer and vice president of Nevada Cancer Institute; and president and medical director of the Don & Sybil Harrington Cancer Center.

At The Oncology Group, Dr. Gerard consults with clients who are working to obtain accreditation by the Commission on Cancer or the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), or who may need help resolving any deficiencies noted during the survey process.

Passionate about educating the public about cancer and wellness through the media, Dr. Gerard has appeared as a guest on numerous radio and television programs, discussing everything from raising funds for cancer patient assistance to innovations in breast cancer treatment. She has written articles for a range of publications, including the Journal of the American Medical Women‘s Association, the Journal of the Texas Panhandle Physician‘s Association and the Orange County Medical Association Bulletin, and has appeared at monthly television press conferences highlighting timely topics in cancer, including PET-CT, advanced radiotherapy services, quality of life intervention during and after cancer treatments, and clinical trials.

Other notable personal appearances include the White House Conference on Aging and testifying before Congress about the benefits of mammography screening, which ultimately led to the reversal of the recommendation against mammographic screening of women ages 40-49.

Dr. Gerard has held academic positions at Texas Tech School of Medicine, West Texas A&M, Amarillo College, and the University of California, Irvine. She is certified by the American Board of Surgery, the American Board of Physician Executives, and is a Juran Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. Her memberships include the American College of Physician Executives, the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Clinical Oncology, the Association of Cancer Executives, the Association of Community Cancer Centers, the Association of Women Surgeons, and the American Society of Breast Disease.

Dr. Gerard is licensed to practice medicine in Texas and California. She received her bachelor of science degree in pre-medical sciences from The Pennsylvania State University, her M.D. and M.S. from the University of California, San Diego, and her M.P.H. from the UCLA / RAND Corporation Healthcare Executive Program.

Angie brings more than 25 years of Medicare expertise to the Provider Outreach and Education team. She has worked on CERT error reduction and education for DMEPOS suppliers and physicians/practitioners. 

Angie is committed to helping providers with the challenges of understanding documentation and policy requirements and navigating the Medicare audit process. Her ultimate goal as an educator is to provide instruction that will result in Medicare provider compliance at the time of initial claim submission.  

 

 

 

 


Jessica Gaddie, DME Provider Outreach Education Consultant and DME Redeterminations Clinical Reviewer

Jessica is a Registered Nurse and has worked with Noridian Healthcare Services for more than seven years. Jessica has held a variety of positions with Noridian including, DME Appeals Medical Review Analyst, Medical Reviewer and Senior Clinical Reviewer.

Jessica now holds the position of DME Education Representative Clinical Reviewer. As an Education Representative, Jessica is responsible for offering support to Noridian’s supplier community by creating and presenting training courses involving detailed billing, coding, and coverage guidelines to ensure correct claim submission resulting in proper Medicare DMEPOS payments.

As a Medicare contractor, Noridian requires their education staff to have continued education within the Medicare healthcare field to ensure the most up to date knowledge is maintained. Jessica’s continued education includes a comprehensive knowledge of Medicare policy and procedures, in addition to a strong knowledge of ICD-10, HCPCS, and CPT coding. 

 

 

 

 


Lillie D. Shockney, RN, BS, MAS, ONN-CG lillie shockney

University Distinguished Service Professor of Breast Cancer
Professor of Surgery, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine

Lillie D. Shockney served as the administrative director of the Johns Hopkins Breast Center from 1997 to 2018 and also served as the director of the Johns Hopkins Cancer Survivorship programs from 2011 to 2018. She is a two-time breast cancer survivor, diagnosed in her 30s and again at age 40. She has worked at Johns Hopkins since 1983. Though an oncology nurse, her primary faculty appointment is in the JHU School of Medicine and is a full professor in surgery and oncology in 2016. The President of The Johns Hopkins University, Dean of the School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Board of Trustees appointed her to a faculty chair as a University Distinguished Service Professor of Breast Cancer. This is the first time in the history of the institution that a hospital nurse has been appointed to a distinguished service designation, and also the first nurse to climb to the top of the physician’s academic ladder. 

Lillie is a published author and nationally recognized public speaker on the subject of cancer with a focus on cancer survivorship as well as metastatic breast cancer. She has written 16 books and more than 300 articles on cancer care.  

Lillie is the co-developer of an employee benefit called Work Stride—Managing Cancer at Work. Though developed for Hopkins' 59,000 employees, the program, which began its inception in 2012, has been so successful that it was and continues to be offered to other businesses and corporations nationally. She continues to work with the Johns Hopkins Health Care Solutions division to enhance the program as well as bring it to other companies recognizing its value to its employees as well. 

She continues her clinical research with a focus on quality of life for patients with metastatic breast cancer, end of life planning, and serves on various clinical research medical advisory boards, each striving to improve the cancer patient’s experience as well as improve cancer care. 

In 2009 she co-founded the Academy of Oncology Nurse and Patient Navigators and continues to serve as its program director since its inception. She also is the Editor in Chief for its peer review journal, the Journal of Oncology Navigation and Survivorship. 

She has received 57 awards—50 national awards and 7 state awards including being inducted into the Maryland Women Hall of Fame, Women in Business Healthcare Trailblazer Award, Johnson & Johnson’s most amazing nurse in America, WebMD's Health Hero Caregiver for 2018 and National Komen for the Cure’s Professor of Survivorship award. Her research area of focus is preservation of quality of life for patients with metastatic breast cancer.

She brings more than 20 years of experience from leading education, sales and market research positions within the med tech industry.

In addition to her Masters in International Business, Irene holds a Diploma in Basic Pharmaceutical Medicine as well as a Diploma in Didactics of Adult Education.

Irene has two professional guiding stars: Creating Business Impact and Helping Learners Learn. She joins us as Moderator for the inaugural Amoena Summit.
