Get Fit & Fight Breast Cancer

Get active in the fight against breast cancer by participating in one of the fitness events held in hundreds of cities around the country each year. It’s a great way to celebrate with other survivors, raise funds, stay fit and have fun—all at the same time! Check out the events below, then visit the web sites for further information.

The Breast Cancer 3-Day are fundraising events in which more than 3,00 people in numerous cities across the country walk approximately 60 miles over three days to raise money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. Proceeds go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. www.the3day.org

The Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade raises money that is awarded by the Avon Foundation, a public charity, for breast cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, support services and scientific research, including prevention and therapeutic vaccine studies. Beneficiaries range from leading cancer centers to community-based non-profit breast health programs. Over the past 10 years, the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade has provided financial support to nearly 1,000 different organizations and researchers. Unlike any other corporate supporters of the breast cancer cause, Avon has implemented a sophisticated and comprehensive need-based philanthropic strategy that addresses every facet of the disease. Rather than fund a single institution, Avon supports a national network of research, medical, social service and community-based organizations, each of which is making a unique contribution to helping patients or advancing breast cancer research. www.Avonwalk.org

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a walking event founded by the Massachusetts Division of The American Cancer Society in 1993. In 2001, 70 cities throughout the United States will host the event during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. makingstrides.acsevents.org.

Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event that mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate breast cancer survivors, remember loved ones and raise money for the fight against breast cancer. www.relayforlife.org
